Learning is beautiful

Last week my brother Paolo and his wife Nicoletta came to the San Francisco Bay Area to visit Leire and me. Needless to say, we had a lot of fun. During the weekend we have been to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. Our hotel, The Four Season, on top of the Mandalay Bay, is one of the best I have ever been at. The view of the Strip from the rooms was just breathtaking and the service as well as the building itself were just great. To make the trip a little bit more unique was Earth Hour. We were in fact in Vegas on March 27 and to my surprise the city participated to the initiative too! At 8:30 pm all the famous exterior hotel lights were shut down for one hour and I have to say that it was weird (but also kind of cool) seeing the city in the dark. At night we went to see the show Cirque du Soleil O: simply amazing. Beautiful music, beautiful choreography, beautiful costumes, all on water. I recommend it to everyone. The visit to the Grand Canyon was also interesting. Seeing what the Colorado river can do in 17 million years, cutting channels through layer after layer of rock and exposing nearly two billion years of the Earth’s geological history cannot leave you untouched. We have also been on the Grand Canyon Skywalk, a U-shaped structure with a glass walkway on the edge of the canyon. It’s not at all free of cost going on it and you cannot bring cameras or any other objects with you, but the view was as scary as amazing.

La settimana scorsa mio fratello Paolo e sua moglie Nicoletta sono venuti nella Baia di San Francisco a visitare me e Leire. Inutile dire che ci siamo divertiti. Durante il fine settimana siamo stati a Las Vegas ed al Grand Canyon. Il nostro hotel, il Four Season, situato sulla torre del Mandalay Bay, è uno dei migliori hotel in cui sia mai stato. La vista della Las Vegas Strip dalle camere era mozzafiato ed il servizio così come l’edificio stesso erano imbattibili. A rendere il viaggio ancora un po’ più speciale ci ha pensato l’Ora della Terra. Il 27 marzo eravamo infatto a Las Vegas e con mia grande sorpresa la città ha partecipato all’iniziativa! Alle 20:30 le famose luci esterne degli hotel sono state spente per un’ora e devo dire che era strano (ma anche bello) vedere la città nel buio. La sera siamo andati a vedere lo spettacolo del Cirque du Soleil O: semplicemente incredibile. Bellissima musica, bellissima coreografia, bellissimi costumi, tutto su l’acqua. Se andate a Las Vegas, è lo spettacolo da non perdere. La visita al Grand Canyon è stata anche molto interessante. Vedere quello che il fiume Colorado può fare in 17 milioni di anni, tagliando canali attraverso strati e strati di roccia ed esponendo quasi due miliardi di anni di storia geologica della Terra non può che lasciarti senza fiato. Siamo stati anche sul Grand Canyon Skywalk, una struttura a forma di U con una passerella di vetro sul bordo del canyon. Non è affatto gratis andare sulla passerella e non è possibile portare macchine fotografiche o altri oggetti con se, ma la vista era tanto spaventosa quanto stupefacente.
