The team from periodicvideos.com of the University of Nottingham went on a trip to Turin (Italy) to do a chemistry lecture. Damn! I wish I was there! It must have been a fantastic demo (I am a huge fan of their videos). I have also showed them to my nephew, who is 9 years old, and every day he was asking me for more.
I lived in Turin for almost four years. It’s a beautiful city that offers great cultural events, like this one. Turin is also the city of the famous “Turin Shroud“, a linen cloth who has impressed the image of a crucified man, supposedly Jesus Christ. There is intense debate whether or not the shroud is the actual cloth used to wrap the body of Christ after his death, and in the second video prof. Martyn Poliakoff explains the radiocarbon dating results on the historic relic.
La squadra di periodicvideos.com dell’Università di Notthingam è stata a Torino per tenere una lezione di chimica. Che peccato, avrei voluto essere lì! Deve essere stata una fantastica dimostrazione (sono un grande fan dei loro video). Li ho anche mostrati a mio nipote, che ha 9 anni, ed ogni giorno mi chiede di vederne degli altri.
Ho vissuto a Torino per quasi quattro anni. E’ una gran bella città che offre un sacco di eventi culturali, come questo. Torino è anche la città della famosa Sindone, un telo di lino con impressa l’immagine di un uomo crocifisso, che si suppone sia Gesù Cristo. Il lenzuolo venne utilizzato per avvolgere il corpo di Cristo dopo la sua morte, ma la sua autenticità è ancora oggetto di feroci controversie. Nel secondo video il prof. Martyn Poliakoff spiega i risultati della datazione al radiocarbonio della storica reliquia.
