Potrebbe essere l’inizio di un canale alternativo alla tv di informazione pubblica, che ha ormai raggiunto un bassisimo livello di indecenza.

With over 125,000 simultaneous accesses, is the largest event web of Italian history so far. It could be the beginning of an alternative channel to television in Italy, which has now reached a shameless level.

Sto ancora cercando di capire cosa diavolo sta succedendo in Italia. Posso immaginare gli storici trenta, quaranta anni nel futuro tentare di fare la stessa cosa. Il primo ministro possiede la metà dei canali televisivi nazionali, una squadra di calcio, molti giornali ed una casa editrice. I partiti politici hanno passato molte leggi per tutelare solo i propri interessi per oltre 15 anni. Anche la televisione pubblica è controllata dai politici, in particolare da Berlusconi. I telegiornali non danno più le notizie, ma passano più tempo su storie di gossip e servizi marginali che sulle questioni reali quando eventi importanti accadono nel paese, arrivando anche al punto di mentire per favorire i politici. Le autorità delle telecomunicazioni e le persone che dovrebbero controllare parlano tra di loro definendo strategie sul da farsi. Quel poco di informazione che veniva dai programmi di approfondimento, come Annozero è stato zittito durante il periodo delle elezioni regionali e provinciali (Cosa?! Non dovremmo avere più informazioni durante i periodi elettorali?). Il Primo Ministro continua ad insultare i magistrati, come stanno facendo i suoi canali televisivi ed i suoi giornali, soltanto perché stanno scoprendo verità sempre più sporche su di lui.
Le uniche fonti di informazione vere rimaste oggi sono giornali come Il Fatto Quotidiano, La Repubblica ed Internet. Per fortuna c’è Internet. Infatti Michele Santoro, conduttore di Annozero, ha organizzato una diretta su Internet il 25 marzo a Bologna chiamato Rai per una notte. Tra gli ospiti ci saranno giornalisti del calibro di Giovanni Floris, Marco Travaglio, Michele Luttazzi, e molti altri, tutti in difesa della libertà di stampa e dell’informazione.

I am still trying to understand what the hell is going on in Italy. I can imagine historians thirty, forty years from now attempting to do the same thing. The prime minister owns half of the television channels, a soccer team, several newspapers and a publishing house. The political parties passed several laws to protect only their own interests for over 15 years. The public television (RAI) is also controlled by the politicians, especially by Berlusconi. The newscast programs don’t give news anymore, but they spend more time in gossip stories and marginal reports then focusing on the actual matters when important events happen in the country, even getting to the point of lying to favor the politicians. The telecommunications authorities and the people they should be controlling are talking to each other defining strategies together. The only piece of information getting to the citizens was coming from the in-depth news programs such as Annozero has been shut down during the period of regional and provincial elections (What?! Shouldn’t we get more information during electoral times?). The Prime Minister keeps on insulting the magistrates, as are his television channels and newspapers, just because they are finding out more and more dirty truths about him.
The only real sources of information left today are newspapers like Il Fatto Quotidiano, La Repubblica and the Internet. Thankfully there is Internet. In fact Michele Santoro, Annozero’s conductor, has organized a webcast event on March 25 in Bologna called rai per una notte (Rai for one night). Among the guests there will be journalists of the caliber of Giovanni Floris, Marco Travaglio, Michele Luttazzi, and many others, all in defense of the freedom of press and information.
