Nell’edizione delle 13 e 30 del 26 Febbraio il tg1 ha dato notizie false sul caso Mills. Per due volte nel servizio si parla di sentenza di assoluzione, mentre l’avvocato inglese Mills, accusato di essere stato corrotto da Silvio Berlusconi per aver testimoniato il falso nell’ambito di due processi che lo vedevano imputato, ha invece commesso un reato che è stato prescritto. I processi di primo grado e d’appello si erano conclusi con una condanna a 4 anni e sei mesi di reclusione.

E’ assolutamente inammissibile che un tg nazionale dica il falso per due volte nel corso di un servizio. Questo è un modo per diffondere disinformazione e per mancare di rispetto ai cittadini. Esiste già un gruppo du Facebook, a cui hanno aderito piu’ di 35000 persone, intitolato “dignità dei giornalisti e al il rispetto dei cittadini“. Basta inscriversi al gruppo per firmare. Io l’ho già fatto. Il gruppo include un appello scritto da Arianna Ciccone al presidente dell’Ordine dei giornalisti, Lorenzo Del Boca, ed al presidente della Rai, Paolo Garimberti. L’appello chiede una reazione dell’Odg proporzionale alla gravità dell’accaduto ed una rettifica con scuse da parte del tg1. Firmalo anche tu. E’ assolutamente normale aspettarsi la verità, specialmente quando a dare la notizia è un tg nazionale.

The TG1, one of the three Italian public television newscasts made a false statement on February 26. The subject was the “Mills trial”, where the British lawyer David Mills was accused of perjury as a result of his testimony in two trials who see accused the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. Mills has been convicted in the first two levels of degrees (in Italy there are three: First degree, Appeal and Cassation) to 4 years and 6 months in jail. A “mirror trial”, where Mr. Berlusconi is accused of corructing David Mills with a payment of $600.000, has been on hold pending the outcome of Mr. Mills’s appeal. On February 25, the Court of Cassation has found David Mills guilty of the offence but said the verdict should be thrown out as the statute of limitations had expired. But the TG1, during the report on the verdict has said twice that David Mills had been acquitted. Above is the video of the report.

That’s inadmissible that a national newscast program can tell a false statement during a report and not having to face any consequences. That’s clearly a way to create disinformation just to favour the Prime Minister, who in any other civil country would have resigned by now. A Facebook group has been created, with already 35.000 followers, named “dignity of journalists and respect for the citizens“. In order to sign all you have to do is joining. I already did. The group includes an appeal to the president of the Class of journalists (Odg, Ordine dei giornalisti), Lorenzo Del Boca,  and to the president of RAI, Paolo Garimberti. The appeal asks for a raction of the Odg and a rectification from the TG1. It’s absolutely normal asking for the truth, especially when a newscast program is talking.
